Reflection of WENA LDS 2007

International conferences are truly magical! WENA LDS 2007 was the first ever WENA LDS, and I can see it becoming just bigger and better in the future!! There were travel mishaps, but those just added to my sweet memories.

On my first return connection flight, the tears didn't stop coming!! In Wales, I was inspired and challenged to become not only a better leader, but a better person. My newly established friendships here are comparable to priceless kinship.

On a lighter note, my "home group" was named "Irish Cows" because there was a cow on the venue called Iris, I got into the gossip box on my first international conferences for "falling asleep" from jet lag and North American bonding rocked! And there is a particular dance that I want to launch at NLDC ("Ice Cream Cake") hehe

I'll blog more about it on my personal blog later on. But, back to reality now,...lots of e-mails to catch up on, aiya!! I can't wait to share my experiences with you all at the G.A. on Wednesday!!

Please do attend international conferences! You will understand more about the meaning of AIESEC, and most importantly yourself, at an entirely different level!

USA challenge Canada????

Hey AIESEC Canada!!!

AIESEC US just wanted to send you a quick note from south of the border to let you know that things are looking pretty good for us to hit 100 exchanges this month. Yesterday we just signed an account with PWC to bring in 30 trainees ASAP and we have 90 SNs on available status. We want to add an extra challenge to the mix and say that we are so confident that we are going to hit this 100 that we also want to make a bet that we will hit it before you do!  So, if you accept this challenge then whichever one of us hits the 100 exchanges first has to write a letter to the other country stating 10 reasons why we rock (letter to be read at a national conference). What do you think? Are you up for it? Despite all the challenges, it would be pretty cool for North America to do 200 exchanges in one month wouldn’t it??

BRING IT ON CALGARY!!!! BRING IT ON!!!!!

International Calgarians

Hello,

As most of you know I am an avid supporter of international conferences, and this year AIESEC Calgary has started to ensure that its members attend as many conferences (international and national) as possible...

So it is with extreme pride that I see our second Calgarian attend an int. conference within two months....

1. First it was Julie Pederson who had an incredible time in Croatia and will be relaying her experiences in the GA (don't miss it)

2. Secondly it is Iris who leaves us today for Wales...Iris Wong is the only Canadian delegate attending the WENA LDS (Western Europe, North America Leadership development Seminar) conference in Wales...and we are VERY proud of her...

Make AIESEC Canada and Calgary proud Iris...

3. And finally today the announcement for the ITC (international trainers conference) delegates were made and we have Mr. Jeremy Torio himself making the final cut....congratulations Jeremy...he will now be leaving for Romania on April 17th to experience an incredible conference...

congratulations to all the AIESEC Calgary members that decided to take a risk...you are creating a new culture for AIESEC Calgary that is extremely exciting...

If you are wondering when you can start your own international experience make sure you attend the March GA, make an effort in finding out when the next conferences are and speak to those who have gone on a conference or are going on one...Don't miss this chance of a life time...Iris, Julie and Jeremy definitely didn't....

Take care

Cheers to a Successful Year

Shocking! I'm actually posting something, but, better late than never...

AIESEC Calgary has always had a strong culture of excellence, and this past year was no different. Winning (rather, earning) LC of the year for two consecutive years in a row, we have definitely pushed the envelope for not only us, but to those across the nation. I'd like to thank everyone that was a part of my ICX team, and for those who were part of the executive board with me. The network of friends that I have made from this experience are now an invaluable part of my life.

I can remember the time at NC 2005 in Calgary where I stumbled upon this organization. I had opted to volunteer at this conference, but I there was no way I could have anticipated the intensity of it. Sucked in by the highly enthusiastic and outgoing members across the nation, I continued to be a part of AIESEC for the next two years. Not only did my I find my place, I discovered how much this country and world has to offer. Thanks to everyone who was involved! You know who you are...

I think that our EB did an excellent job during our 06-07 term, and I hope that the our successors go above and beyond it. Benchmarks are only made to be broken, and I wish the best of luck to Vania, Aaron, Angela, Iris, James, Jeremy, Jagmeet, and Andrew for doing so! LC of the year for the third year in a row! I know you can do it!

Cheers,
Alan

Travel Asia

Hey Everyone!

It's been awhile since I've talked to a lot of you. I hope everything is going well. I'm writing because Liz and I are planning our 2 month tour of Asia and I am looking for tips and stories that anyone may have and could share with us. Anything related to the area, travelling experiences in general, hiking tips, tips for female travelers and inspirational stories will be very much appreciated. If you know of anyone who could take us around or who we could just meet up with, that would also be very helpful...especially if you have AIESEC contacts!

Our tentative countries are: Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia/Singapore and Indonesia. We began with 10 countries and then realized it was too ambitious. Asia is huge and I think it will take many trips to explore everything.

Anyways, I hope to hear back from you guys soon. I miss everyone at home and I love getting emails from you so email me!!! - dtra@alumni.ucalgary.ca

Lots of Love,
dTran
