MTV Staying-Alive 48 Fest

WHEN: World AIDS Day – November 28th, 2006
TIME: 4.00pm - 5.30pm
WHERE: The Empty Space (MacEwan Hall)

At the 2006 International AIDS Conference, MTV and Staying Alive held a 48 hour film competition called 48 Fest. MTV gave 8 teams of 6 youth delegates (or 48 youth) film topics and titles related to HIV and AIDS. We had 48 hours to script, film, and edit 3-minute movies. All films were to be shown to an international audience of our peers and were to be based in a developing nation.

48 Fest gave youth an international voice to share their perspectives on HIV and AIDS issues. As a member of the Yellow Team, my film topic was “Vulnerable Populations” and my film title was “Different Strokes”.

Please join me on World AIDS Day to get updates from AIDS 2006 and watch the “Making of” documentary of 48 Fest as well as all 8 films. Check out www.staying-alive.org for more details on the competition.

Secret Santa!

Hey AIESEC Calgary!!

It's that time of year again! Christmas is around the corner and in the spirit of the season we're going to try organizing Secret Santa's for the local.

So this is how it's going to work;

Send me an eMail with your name confirming that you would like to take part. Then on Thursday or Friday swing by the office and pick up your Secret Santa. There will be envelopes on the walls of the office where you can leave notes or small candies (be creative) for your secret santa. Then, on SATURDAY December the 2nd we will be going out for dinner to exchange gifts (max 5 dollars) and get in the spirit of the season! More details will be coming out about the dinner soon!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Have a great day!

Challenge Your World View - Human Trafficking

When: Wednesday, November 22nd - 6.00 to 7.00
Where: SH202

In our lifetime, we will be increasingly asked to deal with the growing disparities in wealth among nations and peoples.

As awful as trafficking is as a violation of human rights and human dignity, it is sadly what humans are capable of creating in the absence of shame and accountability. Sometimes there is a reluctance to talk about or discuss topics of this nature. The sheer volume of the problem, the hurt and sadness that is caused is almost too much to bear. So we don't even go there. But what about the people that do? Can just acknowledgement make a difference in a global problem of this size? Maybe it can, maybe it's the first step. Find out what other people just like you have done and how you too can reach out to your world.

AIESEC Alumni Rock!

I work with the U of C Alumni Association Student Calling Program and call U of C alumni.

Last night, there was an alumnus called Judy who was suuuuper enthused and friendly. Then I randomly mentioned AIESEC. She asked me what position I was in. Then I realized that she used to be in AIESEC as well!

I looooved talking to her! She also gave me a lot of helpful advice for my career and we talked about what she did in AIESEC. I found out that she was onboard when we started doing International Gala. Wicked!

Judy hadn't been contacted by AIESEC since she graduated, but she asked me to pass on her info to ER.

ER team and AIESEC alumni....sometimes I feel that we need to show more appreciation for them, because AIESEC would not be as strong as it is without them! Thanks for everything!!!

Danny is 26 Today!

Today is the 26th birthday of our prized Romanian intern, Dan Moldoveanu.

Happy birthday!

Danny might want to have a few drinks with you guys tonight. Check your e-mails for more details.

Bon Voyage, Diana

How crazy is that?

Before I left Calgary, Diana was unsure of her desire to go on internship. Peter and I talked her into it, promising that we would have her matched in a month. Not only did that happen, but she was able to get out of the country in 2 1/2 months.

Good luck, Diana. We all wish you the best.

The Return of Wang Wee

As you all might have noticed, Wang Wee temporarily returned to Malaysia to attend to personal matters. However, she is returning on November 12! (And guess what? EnCana's sponsoring her flight back. How nice of them!)

She'll be picked up by her landlord. But I say that we should have a big welcome back dinner for her in the weekend after her return. I know that you guys have been going out to sushi a lot. Anyone have any ideas?
